In auction is a rare find, an Altoona Rail Kings high ball glass. No chips or cracks and in excellant condition. Ok So who were the Rail Kings? they started playing in Altoona, Pa, in 1996 as an Independant team in the North Atlantic league. and they played at the old Vets Field. That year their season finished at 36/42 In 1997 they joined the Heartland League and their stats were 22/14 in the first half of the Northern division and 14/22 the second half. But they did go to the playoffs that year and lost two straight games to the Anderson Lawmen. then came all the talk about the new team coming to town and the Rail Kings knew we could not support two teams so the left and went to Huntington,W Va. That was in 1998 and they retained the Rail King logo just changed the "A" to a "H". But the rail kings could not draw a crowd so they didn't finish the 1998 season. The Altoona Curve arrived in Altoona in 1999. today the Rail King name lives on at the Blair County Ball Park, where the best seats, are designated "RAIL KING". The Rail kKings mascot was "R.K." By the way two other names considered at the time for the Rail Kings were later used nby affliate teams, "SPIKES" by State College and "Curves" was used by the current Altoona AA team.
